This is a photograph of a charming little pine squirrel (aka Douglas squirrel) that I named Squiggy, seen here with a big smile on his face and posing in a woven basket on my back deck where I used to live on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, Canada. Pine squirrels are native to the Pacific Northwest however they are smaller than the gray or black squirrels which tend to take over.
Squiggy came to my back deck often and preferred to eat any donated seeds from this basket. He was the first squirrel I ever photographed and he made a great model…he worked for peanuts!
