Chickadee in Snow

Chickadee Eating Snow

After a couple of weeks or more of nicer weather, the forecast is for our temperature to dip below freezing again for five days or so. We might even get some snow. No, say it isn’t so! Some flowers have already started to come up so they’re about to get a rude shock.

I took this photograph of a chestnut-backed chickadee a couple of years ago. These cute little ones knew that I kept peanuts in the pocket of my winter coat so if they saw me around the house, they would mob me. They would land on my shoulders and on the long lens of my camera. I even had one try to dig a peanut out of my pocket once or twice.

Who could resist that face?
