This photograph of a Towhee was taken when we used to live on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, Canada. We often had towhees hanging out in the bushes that surrounded our house, or scrabbling around in the earth, doing their peculiar dance of bouncing back and forth to unearth some kind of tasty tidbit. They would also pick up seeds that had fallen from the bird feeders. This chubby little number was posing on the handle of a flower pot when I took his picture. I added a painterly background to his portrait.
